Democracy and Monarchy

Democracy and Monarchy

Little we know that monarchy also funds themselves including with their companies including oil and real estates; including the Late Queen Elizabeth II. That’s how they pay for their beautiful tiaras and dresses; like democracy. Like influencers, sometimes they pay their attires by themselves but sometimes they are sponsored. Like political parties, sometimes they are funded by public private finance, sometimes only privately. If a state only has public finance perhaps the country is too democratic; and following the logic where something too much is not good perhaps being too democratic is not preferred either. Including education such as Russell Group. Maintaining the status quo has always been famous in political nuances, when actually the background tends to be for maintaining the funding. This paper is not aimed at blaming neither proving which ones are right and which ones are wrong; but to explore the possibilities of facilitating monarchy and companies like we facilitate public offices, political parties, civil societies, and the poor.

Caesarism-Spanish Kingdom, Austro-Hungarian Empire, United Kingdom, Denmark, Russian Empire, Ottoman, Local kingdoms including in Asia, eg Thailand, Middle East, Roman Empire and other empires in old times tend to think that being powerful means unify certain areas, like what Marolov (2021) mentioned about small power in Serbia and countries related to Austro-Hungarian conflicts: difficult to grow and cooperate. It also happened in Indonesia where the Majapahit Kingdom wanted to unify Indonesia by all means till using the king’s son for marriage. The son was purely in love with a girl from the one and only kingdom that hadn't been united: Sundanese. Her family kingdom didn’t know the true intentions of the Majapahit kingdom so they didn’t bring their armies. Thus when the Sundanese side knew and didn’t want to give in, they were all killed and the daughter chose to kill herself. Imagine it’s still happening now but in different contexts where trade and marriage tends to also be politicized.

In Spanish context, Hernández, Torre, and De Moragas (2021) explained democracy as a government form that could be institutionalized in many ways including with monarchy. Along with Belgium and the United Kingdom, Spain is categorized as democratic parliamentary monarchy; while the Netherlands and Denmark are constitutional monarchy (Berceanu, 2020). What makes democratic parliamentarism different from constitutional?

Haffner (2019) discussed democracy as part of the political sky in Prussian context. Interestingly, the fights intra intra-groups and even within and between individuals in the kingdoms or monarchs are similar with other contexts, especially ideologies, not only Christianity. By using the examples of Turkey and Iran, Kuru (2022) mentioned that even Islam has difficulties in placing democracy especially in relation to the implementation of sharia where almost all wars were started because of. Sharia could actually be interpreted as rule of law, nonetheless the rule is based on the strict interpretation of the Quran; like when the BIble was trying to be translated from Latin into English.

Electoral system has always been the valid and trusted indicator of a country to be called democracy. Nonetheless, even the famous calculations of the Freedom House score, the Polity score, and the Regime of the World based on V-Dem’s Electoral Democracy Index mentioned by Kasuya and Mori (2022) indicate more than that. With the role of monarchy, it’s interesting to see how democracy could be growing, stagnant, or backsliding.

Roosevelt, Hitler, Stalin, and Einstein

Roosevelt, Hitler, Stalin, and Einstein lived during the same era where the atomic bomb was started to be able to be installed relatively easier. At that time democracy in the US was not yet defined as backsliding democracy  but with Hitler leading Germany and Stalin in Russia, Einstein could see how dangerous the weapon could be. Thus despite the fact that he may never have been an ally of the US, but he agreed to work with them; also to save his life from the threats in Prussia especially because of him being a Jew. That’s why, the US may have been having a dilemma in the Palestine and Israel conflicts; but their stance to Israel has always been clear, one of them is because they feel indebted to Einstein. Einstein himself was offered a presidency by Israel but of course being a scientist of time as his stubborn illusion, he doesn’t like mere bureaucracy and administration that could kill his creativity in riding the light beam to research how something called light travels to nothing; thus he said no.

Thus, Harmita (2022) agreed with a definition of politics as a way of thinking, not only bureaucracy and administration such as in Bangladesh and some other countries. Observing from the United Kingdom, it’s actually more possible to build and guard democracy as part of the way of thinking because there is a monarchy as the grand nanny to warn the governments when things get too deviated. Taiwan, Indonesia, Czech, and the US are going to have their elections next year and what will happen if what’s happening now is still happening? How to move from nothing to something? Gravity, and it’s in the mind, where the populists and authoritarians tend to attack. The victims? The innocent voters as usual.
